Project Scope:  
Provided Design and Construction Engineering Services for a 40-megawatt co-generation facility that included a General Electric Frame 6, natural gas-fired turbine generator and an exhaust gas heat recovery steam generator.

All engineering work was in accordance with the requirements of the latest applicable local, State of Alaska, and National regulations and codes.

Project Details:

  • Designed the project beginning with a bare lot and completed it with the commissioning
           of the facility to provide electrical power for the Homer Electric Power Grid and the
           of steam to the Agrium Nitrogen Products Plant, the second largest producer of
           ammonia and urea in the United States.
  • Designed all of the mechanical systems for this facility including steam piping, fuel gas
           piping, condensate piping system, and the steam heat trace and utility steam
           piping system
  • Provided analysis of piping systems using stress and thermal expansion analysis
  • Designed a complete piping support system including spring hangers, guides, anchors
           and the structural steel vertical supports
  • Designed heating and ventilation systems for the buildings, and a digital control system
           for the turbine and steam system operation
  • Designed required piping into an existing fertilizer plant to tie into an existing steam system
           without interrupting plant operations
  • One year after commissioning, the facility achieved a 97% reliability rating, significantly
          higher than the average availability to provide electricity and steam by similar
          co-generation plants
